About Carolyn

Carolyn Strain is a writer and editor from New England, now living in West Chester, Pennsylvania. Single, Not Alone, publishing September 2026, is her debut book. She went to Salem State University, where she studied literature, especially scandalous memoirs by women like Colette, Simone de Beauvoir, and Marguerite Duras. What drew her to these writers, and what drives her own work, is the way each of them wrote past the categories a woman was meant to live inside, and made language for the parts that spilled. Her work is an attempt at the same language. She believes most women are living outside the roles the culture hands them, in lives no language was built to hold. She is the founder of Three Chickadees Press, an independent imprint she built to publish her own work. She lives in a small borough in Brandywine country with her two children, and returns to the White Mountains when she can.
